Interprofessional Projects Program

Since 1995, Illinois Tech’s Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program, housed within Kaplan, has provided students with a distinctive, project-based learning experience grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world problem solving. As a signature component of the undergraduate experience, IPRO engages students in meaningful work that connects academic study to professional practice.

Undergraduate students complete six credit hours of IPRO courses, typically between their third and fifth years. Through faculty-led team projects, students work across disciplines to address open-ended problems of community and societal relevance. In doing so, they apply knowledge from their home disciplines, engage with perspectives from other fields, and contribute to the development of thoughtful, multidimensional solutions aligned with core learning objectives in problem solving, teamwork, communication, and ethics.

IPRO helps students build the skills and habits essential for success in today’s workplace: collaborating across areas of expertise, communicating effectively with varied audiences, navigating ambiguity, and evaluating the broader implications of their work. By integrating these outcomes into a structured, high-impact learning environment, IPRO supports Illinois Tech’s educational mission while preparing students to lead and contribute in complex professional settings.
